Basement! Clean!

It never fails to amaze me how a room that looks like a never-ending heap of stuff, stuff that goes on and on and on, can somehow magically transform all that stuff into a few boxed stacked on shelves once organized.

Our basement was a total disaster, where you had to be careful not to kill yourself by tripping or falling on something on the way to the freezer. Things were piled on things that were piled on tubs full of who-knows-what. Every time I brought something down to 'store' in the basement it landed closer and closer to the door, eventually creeping out to just the bottom of the steps right outside the door, because, really? There was no where else to put it.

So a few weeks ago we dug in. I spent an afternoon clearing a corner out, throwing a few things away and putting the rest into piles. That weekend Adam and a friend of his worked on building up-to-the-ceiling shelves in that corner. Boxes were stacked onto the shelves, more things were thrown away... and it still didn't actually look all that much better. This weekend Adam got more shelves from a co-worker and it all came together. the Basement, somehow, has now miraculously become a BIG EMPTY basement again, and all that stuff we had? I threw away maybe three garbage bags full of garbage, and the rest is still there. It's like it all got smaller or something, amazing.

Now? Now this project is done. On to the next one: NOW I CAN PAINT.
