I don't know what those Aussie's think, but I, in all my midwestern American expertise am pretty convinced that you can't be Australian until you know Waltzing Matilda.
This just happens to be one of my favorite songs from my childhood. I heard a small clip of it today, just a few words, and flashed immediately back to being a kid and some kid movie I liked that included the song.

man, I have to wait to watch it since this connection is too slow. I will get there. by the way, aus is so much like the us in so many ways. there was a country song on the radio the other day and I was like - I THOUGHT I ESCAPED THAT!!!!
